Attendance at school is crucial to learning progression and every lesson counts. We aim for a minimum target of 94% attendance for every pupil to ensure that they are giving themselves the best chance to achieve their full potential. Therefore, we ask that you encourage your child to attend school whenever possible or that you report the reasons for their absence if they cannot. As a school, we are required to report our attendance figures and we have a duty to check the reasons for pupil absences.
•To report a pupil absence, please telephone the school on 01652 654251 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please give your child’s name, the reason for the absence and how long you expect the absence to last. Please contact us each day that your child is absent unless you have given us an indication of how long the absence will last.
•We ask that you make routine medical, dental and other appointments out of school time, where possible. If this is not possible, we require notification in advance so that we can reschedule work or classes if necessary. Please telephone, email or provide a note from home or appointment letter/card to confirm the appointment.
•If you don’t/can’t let us know about the absence on the day or in advance, please send a signed note on the pupil’s return to school to explain the absence.
•We have a safeguarding responsibility and calls will be made daily to the contact numbers of parents/carers if a pupil is absent, where the form tutor or main office has received no reason for absence. Calls are made on a daily basis, even where your child has been absent due to illness on previous days. We cannot assume that your child is still ill unless you have notified us. We would not wish to put your child at risk by failing to contact you.
